Excessive Sleeping – More Than Laziness
Excessive sleeping may be typical for the college student who spends too much time at parties, and less time in bed. However, for some individuals everywhere in the world, excessive sleep may be caused by more than just a lack of responsibility or a great deal of laziness; an excessive sleeping disorder may be the reason for some individuals lack of waking hours.

A simple sleeping disorder may cause excessive sweating while sleeping, but some may have individuals out cold or nodding off for more than half of an entire day. This can cause serious accidents for those operating vehicles or heavy machinery, and risk the possibilities of learning new skills and knowledge at school or work. Narcolepsy is another type of excessive sleeping disorder, which is said to have no permanent cure besides the use of certain powerful antidepressant prescription drugs. Another severe physical problem that can harm ones sleeping pattern is liver failure, often caused by excessive alcohol abuse.
Ultimately, excessive sleeping disorders are serious at any level, and the factors that lead to the problems can be deadly or life threatening. A good step that any individual can take is practicing a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a healthy body weight. Treating any known nerve damage and consulting a doctor for a MRI to identify other problematic areas will decrease the risk of an excessive sleep disorder in the common person. Exercising to reduce stress and anxiety provides another option for those seeking to stop or decrease hypersomnia issues.
